DDPC Priority Setting Survey

The New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) is seeking information from individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and interested others. This information will be used to help the DDPC continue to develop new and innovative ways of making life better for New Yorkers with developmental disabilities (DD) and their families.


Senate Declares National DSP Recognition Week 2010

On June 16, 2010, the U.S. Senate approved Resolution 558, designating the week beginning September 12, 2010, as "National Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week."

DDPC Funded FASD Video Goes National

The New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (NYS DDPC) is happy to announce that a patient education video addressing the prevention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) is scheduled to begin airing in hospitals across America on the Newborn Channel.


NYS Draft 2011-2015 Annual Action Plan and Update to the Analysis of Impediments Public Comment Period

To participate in certain federal community development and housing programs, the State of New York must prepare a five-year Consolidated Plan and an annual Action Plan and provide opportunities for citizens to participate in its development. As part of this process, New York State invites interested persons to review and comment on the five-year Consolidated Plan for 2011-2015 and the Annual Action Plan for 2011 during an upcoming public comment period.


Disability Etiquette: Communicating with, And Writing about, People with Disabilities

This section of www.Disability.gov was recently updated with several new resources about communicating with, and about, people with disabilities. It includes information about the importance of using person–first language.


Impact of the ADA in American Communities Survey Results

ILRU and the Health Information Sciences program at UT Health have published the results of the recent online survey assessing the impact of the ADA twenty years after its implementation. Nearly 900 people in more than 400 communities in all 50 states completed the survey.


Administration on Developmental Disabilities Priority Survey Announcement

ADD is seeking input as they begin to consider future plans and how they can best meet the diverse needs of individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families, across the country.

International Sibling Conference held in Old Greenwich, Ct.

On August 7th and 8th, more than 140 siblings from across the U.S. as well as Australia, Canada and Japan joined together to exchange information and support at the “International Sibling Conference: Exploring the Rewards and Challenges of Having Family Members with Disabilities.”

Debut of the First Factory Built Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), The Vehicle Production Group (VPG), a new American car company, presented a breakthrough mobility solution to attendees at The National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) Annual Conference today.

Open Government and the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC). All DDPC meetings are held in Albany, NY unless otherwise noted.

Under law, the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) meetings and DDPC Standing Committee meetings are open meetings. If the public wants to attend, they can attend as observers. Participants may be asked to leave during breaks in the deliberations and when the meeting goes into executive session.
