Open Forum on Social Needs of Young Adults with DD

How might you make friends if you had trouble recognizing a friendly face?

This is a challenge that many people with Aspergers Syndrome and other developmental disabilities experience every day. Difficulty interpreting facial expressions and other social cues can lead to missed opportunities for friendship. Anxiety about “fitting in” can keep one from trying new experiences.

To explore the social and recreational needs of self-advocating, special-needs young adults (age 18-26) in Orange County, Jewish Family Service of Orange County is holding an open forum. Young adults with special needs who can share suggestions and offer feedback are invited to attend, as well as families and friends.

The forum will address three questions:

What kinds of social experiences are currently available in Orange County for this group of young adults?

What are the gaps in service delivery or availability? What kinds of programs are most needed now?

Date(s): 9/15/10
Time(s): 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Location:

Jewish Family Service of Orange County
720 Route 17M M
Middletown NY 10940
